The recipe: a note, read off the surface
Give it a place; it returns a pitch. No samples, no audio files, nothing stored. The scale quantises the height into the notes you chose.
The honest part. The sound is real and derived: the oscillator's pitch is computed from z = x·y and the scale, with no audio anywhere in this file. "A scale lives on the manifold" is a mapping, a way of laying notes onto the surface, not a claim that the saddle is music. There is no compute speedup; the point is that a tiny definition stands in for the whole instrument. It works because pitch is derivable. Store nothing, read the tune off the shape.
